  1. This was my favorite story, I absolutely loved it! I feel that it really relates to the Holocaust because none of the Villagers stood up when "Hitler" was hurting people or when someone one the lottery.

  2. I like your reaction, Steph. Do you mean that you were surprised that none of the villagers in the story stood up because the "rest of the people" in the town continued to go along with the town's violent tradition? In this story, I guess you could say that the entire town acted like one solid "hitler-figure". I agree though, it was interesting that absolutely no one stood up for Tessie Hutchinson in the end... and the only person who perhaps would have (Belva) ended up being a bystander.

  3. I like this story too. I can also see the connection that stephanie is talking about but I think another connection can be made with this story. The beginning of The Lottery you feel the safety and security of life just as I did in my childhood in Champaign, Il. Towards the end of the story you see a different side of life where individuals in society are taught to fend for themselves. Hitler picked winners and losers; we know that governments should not be allowed to pick winners and losers but does it still happen today?
